Bremen, Germany – Mileway, the leading pan-European last mile logistics real estate company, has completed the installation of a major rooftop solar system at its site on Louis-Krages-Strasse 30 in Bremen – one of the largest commercial and industrial solar rooftop systems in Germany.
The 4.2 MWp installation spans 46,500 sqm across two warehouse rooftops and includes c. 9,500 solar panels and 26 inverters. The system is now fully operational and successfully connected to the grid, marking a significant milestone in Mileway’s ongoing commitment to sustainability across its portfolio.
The installation is expected to generate approximately 3.7 GWh of clean electricity annually – enough to power 1,000 average German households. Up to 20% of this energy is projected to be consumed onsite, with the remainder exported to the grid. Mileway is also collaborating closely with tenants to optimise electricity consumption during peak solar production hours.
“In partnership with our customers, our goal is to drive meaningful change by embedding ESG best practices. This strategic investment in one of our flagship regional assets will help customers operate more efficiently and sustainably, while reducing the impact of climate change as we support the transition to a low-carbon economy. As Mileway’s largest European PV project to date, it has been a major undertaking, made possible through strong collaboration across Mileway and with the valued support of our customers and partners,” said Ulrike Haack, Mileway Country Director Germany.
The rooftop system brings multiple advantages including lower electricity costs and greater price stability, more efficient use of rooftop space, and reduced dependence on one of the most carbon-intensive power grids where Mileway operates. It directly cuts Scope 2 emissions, helping Mileway and its customers progress towards their carbon reduction ambitions.
